Smaller logs for wood-burners

We're now cutting our lovely logs into 8' sizes.

These smaller logs fit well into the ever popular small log burners.

We've also got a good stock of smokeless coal too & we are extending our original early-season offer through into December.

Hurrah...

There's definitely a turn in the weather now , though last night we went to see the new Tin-Tin movie in the West-End (all good fun) & people were still walking around in t-shirst.
Strange but true, mind you it has been the warmest start to winter on record I believe.

I'm  back in the real world & my replacement phone is now up and running.

Lost.

I've lost it or misplaced the thing.
Oh I know it's just a phone but we'd had such fun together. She slipped off while I wasn't paying attention yesterday and is nowhere to be found.
Luckily though, I have all the contacts backed up.

So if you could please E-MAIL HERE with your orders, delivery address & details, specially if you've recently ordered by text.

Thankfully, I have a shiny new I-Phone  winging it's way to me courtesy of Orange. So in the meanwhile please re-confirm your orders by e-mail.

Or call the landline 0208 3144592

Bonfires & Fireworks

Winter is here ! ( well in spirit anyway )

The clocks have at last gone back and tonight it's Bonfires & Fireworks all around London. For me all this signals the official start to Winter. There's a great joy in sharing the whole experience too. I look forward to the gathering of people en-mass to celebrate this important Winter Festival.

Though we're not alone in doing so. The massive festival of light Diwali celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs , Jains & Buddhists alike is also around this time of year. Fire-crackers are set off to ward away evil spirits, families & friends share food & sweets together, it all sounds very familiar, no?
Tonight we are going to be at Dulwich Sports Club as we have done for the last couple of years. They manage to get a good safe family feel to what is, a very busy event.
The Fire (which for me is the most important part ) is lit at 6:30. I love to see the way it starts, the colours of the gases being burnt, the sparks before the whole thing combusts into life. There's always an element of fear too, the fire is itself is primal, it demands respect and I like that.

The Firework display starts at 7:00 pm and there's always food & a bar for that all important Winter-Warmer.

You'll find it all happening here.

Have fun, be safe.

Enjoy.

It's time for a London Log Fire

Log Fires, pot roasts & chilly nights
The cool autumn nights have arrived, and there's even been the first touch of frost here in SE26. We've embraced the cold weather as we always do. It's one of my favourite parts of the year. And as the days slowly shorten we begin to enjoy the warmth of a real log fire. It's also early in the game season too, so a Pheasant or Partridge cooking in the oven will be a regular feature in our house.
Our well stacked wood pile is finally being put it to good use, and it smells absolutely wonderful outside at night.

I've also enjoyed the enjoyed the recent warm weather very much, the warmest on record I think and this late Indian summer has been great for logging, it's allowed us to cut and work the woodlands a good while longer than usual.
It's funny to think that as recently as few weeks ago, we all spent the day swimming, catching small crabs and sunbathing on the beach in Whitstable. It was more like the Greek islands than England.

During the Winter I split my time between town & country. I feel very lucky to do so, it fends off the winter blues for sure . And on my travels I find & see things that i'm sure others would enjoy sharing in. So this year with this blog, I intend to do just that.

It's important I believe to keep an eye on the seasons and the shift from warm to cooler weather. It keeps us in check with nature, balancing our moods along the way. I enjoy each season & with the onset of Winter a little preparation makes it like any other , a joyous thing.
Keep your eye out for the new tab "The Woodman's Curative" It's a separate page with recipes, country & urban food events , and generally interesting and nicely odd pursuits.

I'll also be creating a London Log Community tab, with links to pubs, restaurants, shops and some of my customers who run small & specialist businesses.

Lastly a services page for Chimney Sweeps, log-burners, fireplaces & engineers who can install them.

Enjoy.
